You are a "Miller Man" (or you have a Miller welder) and need a spool gun. Then your local-yocal welding supply gives you a $2900.00 quote. And now you have second thoughts, how many jobs do I have to do to clear enough to pay for this tool?
What are you buying? Will connect to you welder, or you need an adapter? Does your supplier know anything about a spool gun or how to weld with it? Does he carry consumables?

When you ask for a quote, tell them it's part number 130831, which is the gun with 30' leads, I have had customers who bought the 15 ft. lead version. Will it directly connect to your machine? Make sure or you may need a $700.00 adapter, or more.

One of those profitable businesses is repairing aluminum or steel trailers, horse trailers, or 40-foot dump trailers. When a trailer is down, the customer is losing money by the minute. If you have a portable welder with a spool gun, you can write your own ticket. If your gun can run self-shielded flux core steel wire, you can do more with less. The 30-A does not have a self-shield nozzle. If you need longer leads (and you will), you need to shell out another $1113.00 for additional leads.

The basic design of the AEC spool gun goes back to the late 1950s. The original design of the motor in the handle was patented by the Airco Corp. When the original patents expired, everybody made their own spool guns. In the 1980's, the Airco company dissolved, and Profax (in Texas) picked up the design and improved it. The gun is robust teh cover is strong fiberglass, not cheap plastic.
