We are big fans of the "Spool Gun." You have the wire feeder and the mig gun in your hand. There are applications where you can't reach with your standard mig gun. You don't want to weld it with a stick-what do you do? With a spool gun, you can weld any material for which a welding alloy is available. You can always wind a small amount of alloy on a standard 4" spool. For construction welding, you can run self-shielded wire with a spool gun. With 50" to 100' leads, you can reach where you never could before.
