The #1 weakness or vulnerability that will lead to premature breakdown or malfunction, is the obsolete oil bath air filter. When the machine was introduced in 1939, this was the best air filter they had.  The problem is that it's inefficient. It allows dirt and grit to get into the oil. These particles in the oil,  splash onto the seal, stick, and gouge a groove.  On top of that, nobody knows what oil to put in the cup or how to service it.
