Linde/ L-Tec/ Esab Migmaster 250 Mig Welder
Everybody has their favorite something. In the world of single-phase mi welders one of my favorless is the Migmaster 250. These were originally manufactured in Florence, South Carolina. as far as I ascertain, it was one of the last machines designed and built under Linde label. Union Carbide spun-off the Linde division to L-Tec, who eventually sold out to Esab, who was absorbed int "Victor Technologies. You call Esab today adn inquiry about this machine and no one knows anything.
The basic layout of the machine did no change much. If it works leave it alone. They are more reliable as any inverter mig machine and every real welder can tell the difference. It was an Analog machine, it had a repairable PC board to run the drive motor, beafy transformer and rectifiers, you adjusted arc voltage with switches.
I seen ugly but viable units go for $300.00 a auctions. It's biggest problem is that it's not blue or red.
It came with a Euro style Mig gun connector. I am a big fan of the Euro connector and it has become the world standard. First off you cannot install it wrong. It only attaches one way, I call it the mig gun for the complete idiot! It has one tiny gas "0" ring that seem to never wear out. You cannot bend the torch connection pins, their spring loaded. I eliminates the most common mig gun failures. You can get your favorite mig with the Euro connector.
Th only downside is that some parts, especially the rotary switches are not available.. I am reasonably sure that were sources, but know one at Esab will say. I have fixed several switch problems by wiring around the switch. Most welders leave the switch in one position. Some moron will switch while welding, arcs our the conracts.

The Migmaster had one over whelming convivence. It came standard with built- in connections for a spool gun. There is an 8-pin electrical connector, which supplies motor and contactor control. The spool gun power cable screws in to a port on the front of the machine supplying shielding gas and weld power.
The original St-23a spool gun has been obsoleted, it was a good spool gun, expensive, but reliable. I was selling the gun in 1975! Profax (in Pearland, Texas) manufactures a version of their AEC-200 spool gun that attaches directly to the Migmaster adn will not break the bank.
