Miller Spectrum 3080 ICE-80CX Upgrade Replacement Plasma Cutting Torches
Miller Electric has obsoleted the Spectrum 3080 plasma system and the ICE-80CX hand and machine torches. We have our Weldmart replacement torch (120 amps @ 60% duty cycle). That means the torch is designed to continuously cut at 120 amps for six minutes without overheating. If you can cut at 120 amps for six minutes without stopping, you are a better man than I. In our experience, the Spectrum 3080 was and is among the most reliable systems ever made; we see very few come through our shop with anything other than torch problems. These are some of the most reliable and maintainable power supplies ever made.
History: This torch was manufactured by Hypertherm; the Miller parts were different, but it worked very well. The consumables were a bit more than Hypetherm, but worked well. If you were a "Miller Man," you wanted blue!

Miller was sold to Illinois Tool Works in 2000, and one of the first things they did was drop Hypetherm. The "rumors on the street" were that Hypertherm was super pissed, I would be!. They had invested money in molds, special consumables, and other parts for Miller.

They started buying plasma torches made in Ckeclovia, good torches, not backward-compatible.
When Miller started the Spectrum series, they adopted the Hypertherm Quick Disconnect plug. The idea is interesting; you could swap torches quickly in my career. I have never had a customer who used it. I have seen plugs so correded you broke them trying to remove. Miller and Hypertherm never offered the plugs as a repair part; the only way you could get one was to buy a new lead assembly with the plug installed.
