THe orginal Airco Dip-Stick 160 was one of the most reliable composite (where the power supply and wire feeder were in one case) It was priced very competively, They wee orgjnally manufactured by Midstates, Chicago. They wee eunique becaue you could burn a rod ang had hang on a tig torch.
They sold thousaands unde rthe Airco brand among others. You open the box, roll out the welder, it had it's own cart/bottle rack. Install the mig gun, add bottle of gas (it came with it's own regulator/flwmeter. Load a spool of wire (all of whice takes about 30 minutes. It is power by 240 volt single phase power, all you need is a 50 amp breaker (the same size breaker for a standard hot water heaters and normal cooking ranges.
The machine was designed to burn 0.250/ 0.030/ 0.035" and 0.045 mig wire wire, the most common welding wire sizes. To control costs the had a mechnical gas valve, it worked!

Unless you you nave the spot/stick modlue, There is One PC board that controls the weld speed. The board is simple and easily repairable, nothing exotic. Rheostats, relays, bridge rectifiers, that are avaiable on the open market. The orginal gear motor armatures can be rewound.
In short it works and can be maintaned for the forseeable future.
