Advanced Distributor Ignition Systems for Lincoln SA200-F162/163 Engines
Before we even consider improving our SA200 ignition system, ask yourself one question. When was the last time you or anyone you can remember said, "The electronic ignition system in my car died in the middle of the road? It happens, very rarely, but any item made by human hands can and will eventually fail. It happened to me in 1978. I had a Chevrolet Malibu with a small block V-8. I'm running down the road, and the engine dies! I coasted to stop on the side of the road. Opened up the hood and, luckily, found that the coil at the top of the distributor, a Delco HEI, was burning hot, probably due to an internal short. Across the road was a "K-Mart". Purchased a new one cheaply, for eight dollars and change, and replaced it then and there. When I sold the car, it had over 300,000 miles on it, and I was still using the same cheap coil.
1. The electronic distributor has one moving part, the distributor shaft, and the engine oil internally lubricates it.
2. There is an electronic pulse module that pulses the coil and creates the spark. People worry about the module failing in the field. It happens. I recommend keeping a spare—the facts of life and semiconductors. When a semiconductor is electrochemically "Grown", it can have a defect on an atomic level. You can test for it, but you can't see, taste, smell, or feel it. It may be a critical defect or a minor defect. The only way to make it fail, if it will, is to put it into operation, under full load. Run it! In my experience, approximately 97% of semiconductor failures occur within the first ten hours; after 100 hours, they should remain stable under load.
What kills any semiconductors?
1. Excessive Heat, they produce heat in operation, if the design allows them to produce heat, to be dissipated. They will live. By placing the distributor above the block in the airflow, it remains in the constant cool airflow, protected.

2. Excess primary coil current will burn out the module. We have encountered numerous issues with coils that claim to have an internal resistor; when they fail, they burn out the pulse module, which is not a failure that is covered under warranty. Therefore, we have installed an external ballast resistor on the coil, and the problem is solved. With this external resistor, it is almost impossible to burn out the module.

3. The only consumables in the system are the rotor and distributor cap; the high voltage will chew them up, like replacing brake pads on your car—no special tools required.

You can find didtributor kits all over the web, at a lower price, but what are you buying? If sellers compete solely on price, it's a race to the bottom. They cannot make enough profit to afford customer service. You're screwed if you or have a question (like which way does the rotor turn?), a product defect, or an installation problem-good luck.

I know this from our customer calls. I do my best to explain that we offer unlimited telephone technical support for the products we sell. If you purchased it from eBay and have questions, please call eBay.

Our ignition kit will work with the Continental F-162 and F-163. There are different kits for the F162. Our kit comes complete, including the distributor, drive rod, hold-down paw (with the necessary mounting stud), coil, and coil mounting bracket. New spark plug wires, with a lifetime warranty, four new spark plugs, a magneto cover plate gasket, and complete installation instructions are included. The kid included wiring instructions that will enable automatic shutdown due to low oil pressure and high engine temperature. Even if you have "Murphy gauges", this gives you an additional level of engine protection.

Weldmart proprietary coil mounting plate. This provides a clean mount. The coil is mounted above the engine, directly in the airflow—yes, they get hot. Note the coil comes with soldered-on male terminals, which simplifies wiring and provides convenient test points for troubleshooting
I listen to my customers and attempt to answer their concerns. I had a technician who hated distributor ignition because they were "hard (slow) to start".
I asked him, Is your car hard to start? No, " he said. We know the reason. I told him the average electronic ignition kit does not provide the correct wiring. With our kit, you get an instant start and built-in automatic low-oil/high-temperature engine shutdown. Plus unlimited free technical telephone service, for life!

NOT ALL DISTRIBUTOR IGNITION KITS ARE THE SAME.
The images below are some people have sent me and some I found on the net. When you buy your upgrade from Weldmart, you are not buying a box of parts and pieces; you are buying ME! You are getting all the necessary items, except for hook-up wire, and a set of printed instructions that I have been refining over the last 25 years. Our instructions include tips on how to time the engine without a timing light, an explanation of the 12V electrical system, and how to troubleshoot it. Our goal is to help you become as technologically self-sufficient as you desire.

ARE THE VISE-GRIP PLYERS INCLUDED IN THE KIT?
OUR UPGRADE KITS ARE DESIGNED TO TOTALLY REPLACE YOUR MAGNETO. APPARENLY OTHERS ARE NOT.
The coil has only one bolt
to hold it on!
Red neck hold down paw,
I guess it would work?
